Lastings Milledge

What numbers do you guys think he will put up in the prime of his career.

Are Bobby Abreu and Jason Bay reasonable comparisions.

I think he will be a .300 30 100 100 30 type players. Is this too high?

He's more of an Abreu-type player. He'll swipe 30+ bases regularly if he reaches his potential.

I'd say he's more like Abreu, but I don't think he will reach Abreu numbers. I'll be surprised if Lastings ever hits above 30HR and steals 30+. I think his potential is more like a 20/20 hitter or maybe 25hr/15SB depending on much muscle he puts on. Average wise he could hit about .280 to .300.

I wouldn't say those are good comparisons. He has less power and more speed then those players, I would question him hitting for that high of an avg. based on his approach being more raw.

should be called up later in the year or september. however, he still hasn't been in AAA yet. I only saw a bit of the mets Puerto rico game on ESPN, but he looks like a very heads-up defensive player. He almost hit for the cycle in an intra-squad game earlier. He only missed a HR, and he didnt get his hits off minor league scrubs-he got one of his his off wagner, and he seems to be a player with a very bright future in the field and at the plate

Actually... I disagree with these low expectations... This guy is the Class of the OF prospects (Not including Delmon Young)... He has improved his contact/eye at all levels, and actually hit for a better average the higher he has gone..

He has an outstanding arm, and is a very good defender.. he is VERY fast, and will eventually hit for power as well... (Power is always last to develop, and increases with age, and maturity)
A 5 tool prospect all the way ;-D

Lastings Milledge will probably spend most of this year in the minors, with a chance at a call-up later in the year.. But should be contributing in '07 Full-Time as the LF or RF while Beltran is around ;-D

As long as he continues to improve the way he has so far.. he has Abreu/Beltran type of ceiling...

The Mets could have traded for Manny Ramirez, but quickly declined, when Boston asked for Lastings Milledge... Manny is a stud, but not at the price of losing the potential of a Lastings Milledge :-D

If you're talking about my expectations, I don't thing they're low. I expect him to be a VERY integral part of the mets future. However, his expectations are low:

Not sure how what I said causes for being "low expectations". The thread starter threw out a couple names and I said why they weren't good comparisons. Maybe newyork just assumes I am low on him cause I said he could possibly be a bust.

you just seem not to like him very much and don't think that he will have much of a major league career-similar to Jason Tyner, another met center field prospect with similar talents who ammounted to nothing. However, I think Milledge has a much brighter future than Tyner becuase he is just more tallented and is not as much of a 1 dimensional player like Tyner was.
