Probablt took the best deal he could get and hopes to pitch well enough to catch on with someone else or be dealt to a contender desperate for a pitcher in June. He has a decent career, he should know it is time to hang it up though.

Very simply, it is a minor league deal, the guy has some talent and the ink/PR from it will be well worth the invite. Now I know Nomo is really not as hyped or touted as he once was, but he does have many supporters over in Asia. With the Sox having Iguchi and giving Nomo a shot, it can't hurt their image over there. Combined with all of the international talent on the roster and some of the marketing they have used, it seems pretty clear they are trying to gain support in foreign countries to attract players.

From a baseball perspective depth at SP is great to have, great for trading midseason as well. Can never have too much starting pitching, never.

Its not a bad deal..he probably won't make the club but maybee having someone on the team who speaks his lenguage will help him out

+ if he does make the team the amount of Nomo Whitesox gear sold in Japan will pretty much make up for his salary

Little to no risk in a minor league deal. Maybe they plan on trying him at MR.

They probably don't have any real deep plans for Nomo, except maybe to fill out their AAA rotation. Maybe he'll get a shot if half of their rotation vanishes into thin air or something ridiculous like that, but otherwise, Nomo is done as an effective player.
