Vlad has three cousins killed in car crash....

Postby hooligan1 » Mon Feb 27, 2006 7:07 pm

Just saw this scroll on ESPN. Wow, that's really sad. He's left training camp and you have to wonder how this is going to affect his WBC status.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Vlad and his family......

I hope everything goes well for Vlad and his family. Here's the story from ESPN:
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero was given Monday off after three cousins died in a car crash in the Dominican Republic.

Three males, all first cousins, were killed in the Sunday crash, said Tim Mead, vice president of communications for the Angels. The deceased -- Fernando Guerrero, 26; Salvador Carmona, 25; and Henry Guerrero, 23 -- were all buried Monday in the Dominican Republic. Few other details about the wreck were available.

The 2004 AL MVP was given the day off "to spend his time getting in contact with family members. [General manager] Bill Stoneman and [manager] Mike Scioscia felt it was best for Vladimir to have some time to tend to whatever he needs to tend to," Mead said.

Mead said he expected Guerrero, who was planning on leaving the team later this week to join the Dominican Republic team in preparation for the World Baseball Classic, to be back in camp on Tuesday.

"Anytime something like this happens everybody feels it," Scioscia said. "It's a tough time for Vladdy. He's excited about playing baseball and excited about a lot of things, but unfortunately this happened and, obviously, there are other priorities."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Terrible situation. I'm so close with my cousins that I can't even imagine. Best to him and his family.

Wow, 3 relatives? Much sympathy for Vlad, and what terrible news.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

Not to make light of a tragic situation, but this thread title makes it sound like Guerrero put the hit out on his relations and requested that they be "done" with a Buick.
