Heh, how would he be if this kid didd'nt play for the TIgers? I mean, he wouldn't be a Pedro, or Barry Zito, but I think he would be a good spot starter with a decent field and some run support behind him,no?

He looked very impressive against the Jays tonight. In fact, he looked more impressive than Mark Prior did against the Jays. Nromally, Toronto is a team that likes to force pitchers to work deep into counts but Maroth was consistently throwing first pitch strikes and generating ground outs. Prior got sucked right into their strategy of wearing him down and couldn't even make it out of the 6th inning and threw over 120 pitches.

On a better team, at least from watching him tonight, Maroth could be a very servicable fantasy pitcher. He is definitely better than anyone in the Braves rotation aside from Maddux and Ortiz. Unfortunately, with zero run support and inept defense behind him, he's basically useless in fantasy leagues. I ahve to wonder if defense is at all responsible for his fairly high ERA 4.99 which doesn't seem to match the respectable 1.23 WHIP. He has only give up 12 HR, so it looks like the ERA may be inflated by the defense botching plays that aren't called as errors and the like.

I have heard a couple of rumors that he wont make the entire season in DET. The two big speculations I heard was ATL and AZ. He has no fantasy value in DET but if moved to a team with a decent defense behind him I think he could be worth a look...Just something to keep and eye on... :-)

According to baseball tonight, the Tigers won't deal him because he isn't a burden of money or anything. He has a low salary and high talent. He has pitched well all season, and still lost.
