Kip Wells has blood clot, likely done for season

According to the AP Wells has a blockage of an artery that carries blood to his arms.

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Kip Wells has a blood clot close to his right arm, and his season is in jeopardy.

General manager Dave Littlefield described the clot as a "100 percent blockage" of an artery under the clavicle, the primary vessel that carries blood from the chest to the arms.

He will likely need surgery and will miss the year. Too bad Kip, was going to keep an eye out. Good luck.

I wonder what kind of impact this will have on the Pirates staff. Could be some young pitchers are thrown into the mix. Maybe Pat Maholm just became a bonifide sleeper.

The interesting thing is that rumors here in pittsburgh are suggesting that he knew of this problem dating back to before him signing a new contract. its ironic that this happens the first week of camp.

Think he was hiding this problem?

He may have had some arm weakness that he wouldn't have wanted to reveal, but no way would he have known about a clot like this and tried to hide it. If the clots, or parts of it, break off he could have a stroke, heart attack, and even could die. So I doubt that he had any idea of this problem.
