Fantasy newbie....How do I improve this team...

Postby MrE » Sun Feb 26, 2006 8:42 pm

I honestly do not know what areas I need to improve on my teams...I have never done this before, so any input no matter how minor would be greatly appreciated! The league is a 6x6 standard head to head yahoo league, with the batting statistics as R, HR, RBI, SB, BA and the pitching stats as K, ERA, WHIP, SV, W

The team:

C - Jason Varitek
1b - Albert Pujols
2b - Chad Utley
3b - E. Chavez
SS - B. Crosby (I know!)
OF - J. Gomes
OF - J. Francouer
OF - S. Green
Utility - S. Rolen
Bench - A. Rios, K. Lofton

SP - Roy Halladay
SP - Ben Sheets
RP - M. Rivera
RP - H. Street
P - T. Hoffman
P - Z. Duke
P - J. Blanton
Bench - Chris Young, J. Linebrink, and Jeff Suppan

I know my team is weak in the outfield, and I have put in some waiver claims in this order: A. Rios for J. Hermedia, K. Lofton for Brad Wilkerson, and J. Suppan for K. Escobar.

Should I make those roster moves, and who should I look to add to improve this team via trades? Should I consider dealing Pujols for multiple players....or is that just dumb....

Try and deal Hoffman and one of your lower tier SP for a top SP (look for the team that has little or no closing help) and then work the waiver wire and try to do 2 for 1s to upgrade that OF.

Do NOT trade Pujols or Utely. You have to build around them.

i agree. def go after wilkerson. maybe you could try baldelli (im sure he's on the wire...). do not trade pujols or utley, as they are the best at their positions.

Do Not trade Pujols...go after Wilkerson, but I might keep Suppan over Escobar...I like the Hoffman idea though...

Do NOT trade Pujols, Utley or Chavez. You already need help in hitting, but those three could pretty much hold you up if it gets too rough.

You don't need Halladay. Trade him for a lesser starter (Zito?) and try upgrading your OF power in the process. Keep three closers... it's the one major strength you DO have.

you have to keep pujols and utley. there is no way to improve at those positions.like DH said, you can shop pujols around to see if someone will give up the farm for him. but that's what it will take.

and the hoffman idea sounds like a winner. you dont need three stud RP's. and you cant really beat the two you have already have.

good luck, and thanks for the help

I actually like your team the way it is. I wouldn't do the Hoffman deal. You need 3 closers to be competitive and the fact of the matter is if you're playing with experienced guys they'll probably pick up the FA closers as positions open before you get to them.

I think you should go through with all the waiver claims you have (Hermida, Escobar, and Wilkerson).

That said, Green worries me a little as a guy to have to rely on in the outfield. I think Gomes will be fine, and maybe you'll get good enough production from Wilkerson to be ok.

I look at your team, and Utley is the only guy that's untradeable (because of the lack of depth at 2b). Yes, Pujols is tradeable. People drool over him, so don't be afraid to deal him. As long as you are getting two studs in return. (Something like Bay/Abreu and Rollins).

I'd dump Linebrink for a good FA prospect. BJ Upton, maybe?

The other problem with your team is lack of speed. You need to figure out a way to get a base stealer on your team...(And that doesn't mean you should keep Lofton.)

i agree with what they said, try trading francoeur i believe he will hit a sophomore slump as he didnt do very good near the end of last season and will probly be overrated by a lot of ppl.
