Is it Lopez or Acevedo?. Anybody know, now that Politte is on the DL?

Tosca said when asked in an interview that he is using a committee of Aquilino Lopez, Juan Acevedo, Trevor Miller and Tanyon Sturtze. I doubt any of them are worth picking up, at least until it's clear who is being used all the time.

Tuesday morning's articles say that Toronto is going to use a committe.

annoying. i wonder, if one of these guys does consistently well, if politte is in danger of losing his job. that would be just grand; another closer down the toilet.

Official Yahoo update:

Acevedo has been placed on the bereavement list by the Toronto Blue Jays. The righthander is expected to miss the next 3-7 days, as he attends the funeral of his grandmother in Chicago. Once he returns to the team, Acevedo likely will take over as closer, replacing Cliff Politte, who is on the disabled list with a strained pitching shoulder. Jason Kershner takes Acevedo's spot on the roster.

Acevedo getting the nod

Postby cddyson » Tue Jul 01, 2003 9:49 am

In Monday night's game notes, Tosca is quoted as saying that Acevedo will get the chance as soon as he gets back, because he's done this before. I had picked up Lopez last week, because of Politte's struggles, but I think that Acevedo is the likely candidate.
Looking at the ball going over the fence isn't going to help.
