Luis Matos...Super Sleeper?

Postby cddyson » Mon Jun 30, 2003 5:18 pm

I sorted on Yahoo by averages, and since late May, he's been averaging:

1 Run per game
1 RBI per game
1 HR every 3.33 games
1 SB every 10 games
.324 average

Has anyone picked up on this guy yet? The available and droppable on my team include Lofton, Podsednik, Reed Johnson, Rondell White, Wes Helms, Stynes, and Mientkewicz.

I'm looking for thoughts or insider info on this guy, and thoughts on the other guys listed in comparison to him.

Don't drop Mondesi. His trade value is always pretty good. Use him to help upgrade somewhere.

Mondesi is a product of his surroundings this year

Postby cddyson » Tue Jul 01, 2003 3:23 pm

Mondesi hits at the bottom of the Yankees lineup, and has been surrounded the last month or so by Rivera, Ventura, Zeile, etc. - not helping his numbers. When Bernie and Nick Johnson come back, and the Yankees pull their typical trade antics to solidify the bottom of the lineup, that will mean a production boost for Mondesi.

As for Matos, I'm just learning about him, and he does play for Baltimore. While Gibbons & Co. provide a little protection, that still doesn't compare to Mondesi's spot.

I would say stick with Mondesi at least for another week to see if Matos keeps this up.

who is this guy? nevermind that, i like what i see on his statline.

how would you guys rank him compared to the following swingmen:

eric byrnes, scott podsednik, alex sanchez?

basically, podsednik is a SB option for me, and his hot hitting as of late has been tremendous. sanchez started off ON FIRE for the tigers, but has slowed down some. byrnes looks to be a solid 5 tool guy who can give you some pop, some avg, and some steals.

matos looks to be in the same boat of byrnes... so how do you guys compare them?
