Classical Thump is amazing, I've heard of one person...ever, who could play it at full speed other than Wooten. He's amazing.
Billy Sheehan is amazing too, he's like the Shawn Lane (but better) of bass.
Tony Levin is brilliant (check out his work with Liquid Tension Experiment).
John Myung is great, when you can hear him. His tone is horrible though.
Cliff Lee Burton was an awesome metal bassist.
Bootsy was awesome as well (Ahh The Name Is Bootsy Baby).
James Jamerson is like THE God of bass, his work on What's Going On is great.
And Chris Squire is my personal favorite, I love playing his stuff. Sound Chaser and Heart of the Sunrise are my favorites.
I'll give Chris Wolstenholme a mention here, Muse has only released 3 studio albums thus far but he has shown some pretty good potential.
