Here's something to brighten your day...

The Indians want to get Hafner at least 15-20 games at 1b so that VMart can DH too. Great now we can play Hafner at 1b and more abs for VMart.

That is excellent. In fact, they did this a couple years ago to keep VMart in the lineup too. But then last year he had such a horrible first half that when they rested him, they didn't want his bat in the lineup. Then by the time he came around, he played every single day anyway so it didn't matter.

But this is great for owners of both, for sure. ;-D

I am always skeptical of such announced "intentions". In practice, very few AL teams with excellent hitting catchers have DH'ed them very much when they were the primary catcher, even when they didn't have particularly good alternatives.

Well for Hafner that depends on what the minimum games played for a position is. Yahoo is 5, so therefore he'll get 1B eligibility roughly in June, so his value definitely goes up a lot, and he's now a 3rd round kind of guy. I play at sandbox though, where you need 15 games played, so barring an injury to Broussard, he won't get eligibility there till very late in the season if at all. So his value wouldn't go up at all really in that league.

For Martinez, he's already the top C so he can't go up any higher there. He does go up a little on the overall chart though. He now moves up to being maybe a late 3rd guy, if not early 4th.
i don't post much,but i'm always lurking...

Hafner was already at worst a 3rd to mid 4th rounder in my book. In Yahoo's system I think he's going to end up being worth a mid 2nd pick. And in Yahoo's system the only 1b I have ahead of him are Tex, Pujols, and Ortiz (Yes, I like Pronk more than Lee).

The DH thing isnt' holding Hafner back as much as his injury issues and the fact I'm still not 100% sure he can hit lefties. Doing it for one season isn't a big enough sample size for me. This does make it sound like at the very least Hafner will start at 1B in interleague games however.

For Vmart I don't think it raises his value at all because even some small nicks and they won't DH him. Catchers in general are a fragile bunch, the job is just very hard on the body. There are 100 reasons he could end up not actually DHing this year.
