Took one to a drycleaner once and they told me to run it through the dishwasher (top rack). Just check if your detergent has bleach in it if you care about that. Mine was bright yellow and now it's pretty ugly.

Running it through the dishwasher works and you should probably put it in by itself. They also make plastic, hat-shaped things that you put that hat on and it keeps it's shape. I actually found that shaper thing at a $1 store in a mall a couple of years ago, but you can get it at Lids (for a few $ more ofcourse).

That's what I did the one time I washed a hat.

I just buy new ones every other year. I got the mesh spring training hat for the Giants which fits like a glove everytime. This will be my 3rd year with it. What kind of hats are you saving?

I have 2 fitted Cubs' hats I've never bothered washing- home and away. I am playing softball this year though and suspect they may get a bit grungy as everybody is starting up w/ the 'oh, you'll slide baby' trashtalking and stuff...

The brims will go right back to their original shape, as long as they're plastic. Those cardboard brims suck.
