I was just curious if there's any info of a major league player dabbling in a fantasy baseball league. It would be funny to see how he drafts his colleagues or himself.

Real ballplayers are prohibited from participating in fantasy baseball - its covered by the prohibition against gambling on their own sport.
However, fantasy football is IMMENSELY popular amongst baseball players. Generally, manager ask them to keep it out of the clubhouse though, because it looks bad.
"One of the teams represents truth, justice, the American way, and underdogs everywhere. The other represents George Steinbrenner!" - U.S. News and World Reports columnist John Leo on the difference between the Mets and the Yankees.
That's pretty interesting. I wonder if someone actually does get caught playing fantasy baseball, would he receive the same ban for gambling? Say no money was involved and he was an AL player participating in a NL-only league.

i had no idea it was illegal, but i know a couple "real" baseball players who do have fantasy teams--not money stakes, of course--and one of them does (or, at least, *did*) have himself on his fantasy team.
in fact, when i met him, the first thing he asked me was, "do you have me on your fantasy team?" and i said, "yeah" and said, "sweet, me too!" and we laughed about his most recent (crappy) performance.
he said most players have fantasy teams. can't be illegal. those guys weren't very sneaky about that fact.
