Who do I franchise?

Postby cmeier » Wed Feb 22, 2006 3:05 pm

Hey guys, I'm a new member and this is my first post. I would like input on who to franchise from last year for the upcoming season. I play in a standared 5x5 league with daily updates. We are allowed to keep 2 players from to previous year. Here are my top players from last year let me know who you would keep and why....

Manny Ramirez
Carl Crawford
Jake Peavy
Pedro Martinez

also on team but probably not in consideration...
Jimmy Rollins
Josh Beckett
Jose Reyes

I appreciate everyones opinion and insight

Have to go with Manny and Pedro.....The reasons are fairly obvious...They both are gonna be gone in the 1st round of almost all drafts - Manny usually gone by the 5th pick. There arent many sure things out there, but Manny is as close to one as youre gonna get.....Pedro a little iffy this year with the foot....But yo have to think with the Mets on the upswing this year, he is going to give even more of himself to be "Pedro". Besides, SS is an unbelievably deep position this year, so dont waste a Franch on one of them.....

Welcome to the cafe.

I would franchise manny and crawford. contrary to the last poster I don't think pedro is a 1st round pick. Manny and crawford will both surely go in the top 15. Between the two of them you should have should have a good base for all 5 hitting categories.

If you can only keep two players (and assuming you don't keep your pitchers), I'd assume all pitchers except johan, and maybe carpenter or oswalt will be back in the draft. So keep your top shelf hitting and draft a stud SP in the first few rounds.

I also agree on the picks of manny and crawford - both go within the first round of most drafts.

Im gonna have to disagree. I say take Peavy and Manny. Peavy has great stuff and i put him 2nd behind Johan. He is also young(24 i think), pitches in a pitchers park, High K's low ERA and WHIP.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess at this point and even before I posted this I had decided that I will be keeping Manny and either Crawford and Peavy. Does anyone think keeping 2 outfielders is a problem? I am guessing I may be able to pick Peavy if I want in the draft but Crawford would be gone.

No, keeping two outfielders is no kind of problem. It really doesn't seem to me to be worth keeping pitchers when there's only two keepers. Plus, Manny's stats and Crawford's complement one another very nicely. Manny is obvious, whilst in a redraft Craw will be going somewhere 9-14, which is about right, whilst Jake is going lower and is in my eyes still being overdrafted.

Manny and Peavy, Manny is surrounded by studs so I like him over Crawford. Peavy is solid as they come.
