Closer for Pittsburgh

Postby eightball61 » Wed Feb 22, 2006 9:49 am

Who is the scheduled closer for Pittsburgh this year? I thought it be Mike Gonzalas but they also got Marte in a trade from Chicago. Is Pittsburgh doing a closer by committee or do they have set closer and Marte will be the setup man?

I think Gonzalez is the closer and Marté is the set up guy, barring injury.

Yeah, from all I've heard, it will be Gonzalez.

Gonzalez will get first shot. If he doesn't hack it I would guess Torres would be next then Marte.

This is what I have heard as well, but I don't expect Gonzalez to lose the job to any of these guys. At the end of the year Torres may have 5-7 saves, but they will be of the two inning type.

If Torres is ahead of Marte it is simply because of the loyalty factor. Marte dominates Torres in the makeup of a closer department IMO and should geta crack if Gonzalez falters. Roberto Hernandez over Marte??? :-?

Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!
