I'll contribute. We play 5 weeks. Two division winners get byes. Next two teams in each division play a one-week game for the right to play the division winner. The divisional championships are two weeks long, and the winners play for the league championship, which is also two weeks long.

The two-week matchup gives more assurance that the better team wins.

It doesn't really matter as much in baseball as it does in basketball. Most teams play a pretty consistant number of games every week. The difference isn't enough to matter for position players.

Now, pitchers are a different story, but it's impossible to project that far ahead.
