My fault Pac. Sorry to bring my bitterness into your otherwise peaceful thread. :*)

First of all, I love Dell.

Second, CD drives are modular; your best bet is just getting the module:

Check ebay and froogle for better prices. I think that's the way to go though.

The problem with laptops is that upgrades are soo expensive...I'd go with the external ;-D

Or get one for the desktop and just network it

Haven't looked into it yet, but I don't see any reason why not.

Is it easy to install RAM into a notebook?
You have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who walks into the middle of a movie...

It's not hard at all if you know what you're doing... i work with Dell notebooks all day so I have it down pat and I have the right tools. Most notebooks have the RAM DIMMs under the keyboard which can be a pain; you have to remove the bezel (which is the hardest part) then some screws for the keyboard. After that it's smooth sailing and even fun! The memory is kind of spring-loaded into the slot, so when you pull apart the tabs that hold it in, it "pops" up so you can pull it out.

I think old notebooks have memory bays underneath that are even easy to access.
