Auction with real money

Postby beatlehead84 » Mon Feb 20, 2006 2:03 am

I've always been interested to hear if anybody has done this. Lord knows I don't have the money, and I don't have friends who are loaded either. But has anybody done an auction where you actually have to front real hard cash?

I think it would be great if it was no limit. Just like the MLB. You could spend a few hundred bucks on a team, or less than a hundred but either way you could come away with it all. Players with questions would go for a lot less, because you actually are paying for the guy, and picking up another player to replace him will cost you more dough.

Granted, I will never have the money, nor the guts, to be in this kind of league, but I was wondering if there were any stories out there that anybody wants to divulge. That would be true fantasy baseball.

Heh, I don't have enough money to even draft a whole infield.

Yeah it would be fun. In no way do I have the funds to do it, but I know there are leagues out there that put up well over 100 bucks to be in the league. I just don't get why you wouldn't do something like this where you really lose cash if you lose a player or drop him. It just seems like a lot more fun, if you are already putting up the big bucks.

I've actually thought a lot about putting together a league like this, although at the moment I don't have the financial neccesseties needed to do it :-b I do think that it would be a really cool idea but I do think that you would need some sort of salary cap otherwise one guy who's really rich could just buy whoever he wanted...

Maybe a $260 cap, like a regular auction. That'd be pretty fun.

Your best bet would be to buy ALL the players and arrange month by month leases w/ the rest of the teams so if anybody breaks out, you could jack up their rent. Unfortunately, that would not be likely to be very popular... :-)
