Not to start another debate but the flag is not racist. It is actually the state flag of Mississippi. Is the symbol of Africa a racist symbol because it was used by the Black Panthers?

Men of many colors fought behind the stars and bars of the confederacy. And those same men suffered at the hands of the Yankees when the marched into southern lands. Maybe the Yankees should have to change their name?

I don't hate anyone based on the color of their skin.

The confederate flag issue for starters. Many descendants of slaves feel it is a symbol of slavery and oppression. Many southerners disregard their claim as baseless.

The south fought a civil war over slavery iunder that flag, and to fail to see what it represents is very close-minded.

I'm not debating this anymore. I may start a post on another site geared toward politics, after all this is a baseball website. However, the Civil War was not fought over slavery. News flash there were slaves above the Mason-Dixon line, believe it or not. The media has been succesful in portraying southerners and white trash rednecks blasting shotguns out of their trailers. So let's remember, racism works both ways.

Your view of the flag being racist is also close-mided.

Back to Juan

I wouldn't want to play in Montreal either. I wouldn't want to move to Canada to play in a province that is dominated by people who don't want the American pastime there. However, I wouldn't want to sit the bench if I had the athletic talent that he has.

To Excited Southerner:

I agree that the war was not fought over slavery. Slavery was rather used as a gimmick by the north to gain support. However, as the war moved on, it actually was a major role of the war.

Anyways. I am sick of southerners proudly displaying their confederate flags. I bet 99% of them don't understand what a Confederation is. Where you one of those people after 9/11 talking about America having to come together for each other and be united? Odds are you were, because pretty much everyone was. Well, The Confederate States of America was all about division. They were loosley affililated states with a weak central government, that would have never succeeded. It would probably have became individual countries. So don't tell me that you love America and then wave the Confederate flag around. I don't care if you are "honoring your relatives," because you are dissrespecting your fellow citizens, because you are essentially saying that you don't want to be affiliated with them. And also, why spend so much time praising a war that was lost? I have lived in both New York and Georgia. You should see the difference in the education of the War between the States.

The End.

Our great nation was originally a loose confederation. Have you forgotten that? I agree with you about the divison though. I am not flying the confederate flag, this is the flag of my home state. I'm glad that the south did not win the Civil War because it would have weakened our nation so much that we would not be where we are today. I love the South but I also hate it because I am surrounded by ignorance on all sides.

If you would actually like to see the historical flags that have flown of American soil you can look here.

OK. Thank god I wasn't talking to a lunatic. I agree with you 100% then. I know that it started out as a loose confederation under the Articles of Confederation actually, but the country did not run too well under those and that is how we got the great Constitution. Enough history lessons and political discussion for me. BACK TO BASEBALL!

Yea, but I don't think Juan will be sitting the bench (and neither do my friends at baseball tonight). Juan has too much talent and the Rangers have too little young talent in the OF to bench Juan.
