I have been offered Brian Lawrence ($5), Scott Stewart ($5), Bobby Hill ($5), Marlon Byrd ($5) and Daryle Ward ($3)
Adam Dunn ($5).
If I pull the trigger, I will fill several needed roster spots with low salry players who have very high upside. This iwll allow me to fill my few remaining slots with studs like Sosa, Bonds, Thome, Vlade, etc.
I am sorry, I only told you to do it and didn't answer your "why" part of the question, well here goes.
Dunn is going to be good, but he isn't the next Babe Ruth either, he will be a top offensive player within a few years. Bobby Hill has a huge amount of potential too, and will be a top 3 second basemen in the league about the same time Dunn is one of the very top players. Lawrence's value is already three times what you would be paying him this year and he will only get better. Stewart is young and will be the closer this year, and maybe even the next couple depending on how he does. Byrd is going to be great player with 25-25 potential...he alone MAY have a better value then Dunn down the road. Finally, Daryl Ward, well he's won't give you much, but might be worth keeping at such a low price
from the outside looking in it looks to me like this guy is trying to throw out his trash and bring in a Diamond. I wouldn't do this deal. I bet you most of those guys he will dump back into the draft, if not all.

I agree with Trevisc here - he's dupming players he'll cut anyway. I LOVE Dunn and as indicated above, Hill and Byrd are unproven, Ward sucks and you probably will get a chance at Lawrence in the draft.
Tell him no - then offer him all your planned unprotected players for Byrd and Hill ..

I wouldn't do it either. While that is a nice collection of young talent none of them are proven. Most of them will go for about the same price in the auctin while Dunn is certainly close to a $20 player. You are not getting any real values there.
