Question 1:
According to Wikipedia:
Many people will refer to celebrities as A-List, B-List, C-List, D-List or Z-List. These indicate a placing wihtin the hierarchy, though due to differing levels of celebrity in different regions, it is difficult to place people within one bracket. In addition to this, these 'lists' do not actually exist; they are concepts whose definition will change from person to person.

I figured there was no definitive list, but I was hoping some folks had taken it upon themselves to make an actor cheat sheet. Yuo can find anything on the Internet, or so I always thought.
I said Clooney was not an A-list guy because he usually doesn't carry movies without a "bigger" star involved.
I don't think there's any definitive explanation for what "list" an actor is on... usually if an actor can carry a movie themselves, they're A list and when they suck, comedians something will just say they're something like H list or whatever.
Clooney may or may not be A list, not so much for his acting ability but probably because he's established himself as a director. He's also focusing on more limited release films now as a director ever since Batman & Robin totally bombed. Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was very good and he also produces a lot of the movies he's in now. Even with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon as well, he pretty much carried Ocean's 11.
I think i've mentioned this before, but Clooney once said that if he ever met someone who admits to seeing Batman & Robin, Clooney said he would personally refund their money and apologize. I think that's awesome; that movie blew.
As for Clooney, I don't know why you mention him but I know his politics sometimes get more attention than he does; aside from those politics, which I don't care for either way, I thought Good Night and Good Luck was fantastic.
