Javy Lopez

Postby OneLoveBoomer » Thu Feb 16, 2006 4:37 pm

Hi guys. What's the deal with Javy Lopez? He's listed as catcher, but I guess he'll be DH/1B? Is this so?

And, more importantly, if he starts as Catcher (like on yahoo) but becomes 1B/DH, will he lose his eligibility @ C?

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec reports Baltimore Orioles 1B Javy Lopez is eager to put team disagreements behind him and concentrate on learning his new role at first base. "I feel kind of excited about it because it's going to be a challenge for me," Lopez said. "If I don't do well, I am going to be in trouble. It's a must do well for me. I'll be totally prepared for it."

If he is listed as a catcher this year Yahoo won't take it away. Just dont expect him to be listed as a catcher next year.

He will play 1B this year because the orioles signed Ramon Hernandez.

I'm thinking, then, that he's quite the guy to grab at C. Is he big on everyone's list?

I agree!... assuming he will be going full time. I assume he isn't catching because of long term affects of last year's injury. Are these affects going to end up affecting how often he plays (whether 1B or DH) this year? If not, he will be kind of like Inge was last year... except maybe more successful. He might be a sleeper...

Hoping so, but he's relatively high ranked on Yahoo so who knows...

I have seen him go as the 3rd to 5th catcher in most drafts. If he comes up in the right spot I would love to have him on my team.

I thought sleeper might apply to players who are undervalued for whatever reason. Lopez is because he is listed as a catcher, but is actually a 1st baseman, or DH. I guess I'm unclear on what the definition of a sleeper is. (I'm not trying to be facetious here).

He is listed as 98 on the Yahoo O-rank. That's the 8th round in a 12 team league (which I will be drafting in tomorrow). What round would you be willing to pick him up in to get him? I am thinking I might pick him up in the late 6th round or after. Am I overvaluing him? Its last year's injury that I am worried about. Does anyone know if that is a lingering injury?

Wow, I never had a chance at him. Someone picked him up in the 3rd or 4th round...
