After a mediocre showing for the Padres' AA affiliate (.275, 3HR, 16/55 BB/K), Khalil Greene, the 13th pick of the 2002 draft, has been back in form. Just as he did at Clemson, Greene has been hitting for a high average (.338) since being promoted to AAA. While his plate discipline is still bad (2BB/17K) in 18 games, his power numbers are improving (4HR + 2 2b).
Greene is probably the closest player to the major leagues from the 2002 top 15. With Mark Loretta on the trading block (obviously being showcased batting 3rd), and a mediocre backup next on the depth chart, I expect the second Loretta is traded, Khalil Greene will be promoted to the major leagues and start every day.
