Darn, and here I was just about to draft him next.
Seriously though, even if he stayed in the game it would of been just as a sideshow event, he is pretty much a shell of his former self now. "Look Bobby, that player over there used to be big and hit HR's" ... "Are you sure daddy? He looks like he would need a miracle drug to do that."
Adam Katz, another one of Sammy Sosa's agents, told ESPN.com that the 37-year-old outfielder has effectively retired.
"We're not going to put him on the retirement list," Katz said. "We decided that [not putting him on that list] was the best thing to do. But I can say, with reasonable certainty, that we've seen Sammy in a baseball uniform for the last time." Katz said this wasn't about money. "Sammy spent a lot of time ruminating on this," Katz said. "And it basically came down to this: He has such high expectations for himself, and last year was absolute misery for him, the way he underperformed. Sammy just didn't want to put himself through the possibility of going through something like that again. He still thinks he can do it. But there's some doubt there."
Good riddance. And what a bunch of nonsense by the way. Sosa KNOWS he can't do it without the roids and does not want to embarass himself for only 500K.
Like Sosa was ever playing for anything but himself? He never won a thing. Has to be one of the most selfish players in the past few decades. Can anyone think of a player more selfish in the past 20 years?
He is simply quitting because it does not pay him enough to go out there and stink it up. He probably would make more than 500k in speaking fees and commercials/ads (though probably most of them would be in his native homeland as his US ad-appeal is pretty low right now).

No I don't believe Sosa is as selfish as say ARod.

You probably wouldn't agree with my reasons. I think it's safe to so many strongly feel Arod is selfish and many don't. Maybe it's best to leave it at that, but here's the first two off the top of my head: Signing the Texas deal, leaving the M's and slapping the ball out of the glove.
TheYanks04, Was Sosa ever proven to have taken illegal perfomance enhancing drugs? Do you feel other players suspected of cheating are selfish (Babe Ruth, the original bat corker for one)
