Very good point.
He could, of course, be concerned about Prior or Zambrano or Maddux blowing up...I dunno though...it just doesn't make sense. Maybe he's trying to fake out the Cardinals and scare them? I'm sure that they're terrified!! LOL...

For the $1m price tag, I actually thought it was a good move. Put it this way -- would you rather take a chance on Wade Miller for $1M, or pay $8.3M for Jeff Weaver?

I was also about to mention that it could be a good deal considering how expensive starting pitching has been this offseason and last.
Really, the Cubs management have become like the Red Sox under Duqette. You really can't believe a word out of their mouth wrt to injuries and expectations, esp when pitchers are involved. I mean we all know there is a better chance of Ken Griffey playing 155 games then there is of Kerry Wood getting 30 starts.

COMBINED Wood and Miller have a zero-percent chance of starting 30 games. If i were Wade i would have stayed as far away from dusty as humanly possible (the guys puts his kids in the line of fire of gosh sakes).

Just to make sure I'm not misunderstood, I can TOTALLY understand wanting another arm capable of eating some innings around Wrigley but I'm not sure a dude w/ an aftermarket arm is exactly going to do much more than eat innings when/ if the 'big guns' blow up again. A mill IS a reasonable price though and, in terms of the team, it's certainly a decent move.
Where the heck they'd come up w/ Wood and 30 starts, I can't imagine though. Maybe Steve Stone smoothed out his motion for him? hee hee...

Just bitter about the injuries and nervous about CZam's IP but, overall, the staff has done reasonably well for the last few years AND, now we have Juan Pierre, boo yeah!!
