Weaver signs with Anaheim

Postby Nat Uralice » Wed Feb 15, 2006 4:32 pm

Angels signed RHP Jeff Weaver, who had been with the Los Angeles Dodgers, to a one-year, $8.5 million contract.

His value stays about the same, imo. He's back in the AL but has a better lineup and bullpen now.
Can't worry about tomorrow's pain tonight.

I agree...no big fantasy impact because of this trade.

I feel his value drops a bit. Leaving a pitchers park, and adding a DH.

As an Angel fan, I'm quite delighted by this signing.

Just makes our pitching rotation and bullpen that much better/deeper.

Both ballparks in LA last year had practically the same park factors, so that doesn't really do anything to his value. The only thing that hurts him is the DH and not facing all the weak NL West line ups.

How do you figure? Weaver's not great, but he is solid. And he is a big improvement on whatever pitcher was going to be in his slot.

My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.

I wasn't really serious, hence the ;-7 ;-)

You are right, the Angels are better than they were yesterday, but it has cost them 8 million for a marginal upgrade. If Weaver's ERA this year is under 4.50 I will be impressed. Oakland also has plenty of lefties, so any right hander works for their matchups.

It's not a bad contract, but then again anything seems good when you're a fan of the M's and and the Washburn contract. :-P
