Your Dream Team

Postby Belle4Hall88 » Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:58 pm

Pretend you are the GM of a MLB franchise. The idea is not to go out and buy a bunch of MVPs like the New York Yankees, but to build for the future. This idea is for this to be realistic. Starting from scratch, take in account salary, age, ect. to field your dream team.

Why is Contreras on that list? He is relatively old compared to the other players and not that good.

and Nomo has to be a joke, right?

I'll give this a shot:

Starting Lineup
C - VMart
1B - Pujols
2B - Cantu
3B - Wright
SS - Reyes
OF - Sizemore
OF - MCab
OF - Bay
DH - Teixeira

Rotation
SP - Peavy
SP - Sheets
SP - Harden
SP - King Felix
SP - Beckett

Bench
OF - Delmon Young
OF - Francoeur
3B - ARam
MI - Barmes
1B - Howard
C - Mauer

Bullpen
Closer - Nathan
Setup - Lidge
Setup - KRod
LH Specialist - Mike Gonzalez
RH Specialist - Turnbow
Long man - Duke

They're all (relatively) cheap, they're all good, and when someone is ready for a big payday you can deal them for the top prospects around.

This is a pretty cool idea......I'll bite.

Lineup:
1. Jimmy Rollins SS
2. Ichiro Suzuki RF
3. Albert Pujols 1B
4. Jason Bay LF
5. David Wright 3B
6. Chase Utley 2B
7. Joe Mauer C
8. Coco Crisp CF

Bench:
Cesar Izuris SS/2B
Chone Figgins Util
Shea Hillenbrand CI/DH
Jason LaRue C
Juan Encarnacian OF

Rotation:
1. Johan Santana
2. Mark Buehrle
3. John Lackey
4. Scott Kazmir
5. Paul Byrd

Pen:
Jorge Sosa LONG
Dan Wheeler MR
Tom Gordon MR
Mike Gonzalez MR
Scott Shields SETUP
Ricardo Rincon SETUP
Brad Lidge CLOSER

Tried to get a variety of ages and salaries; mostly younger to young-ish guys and guys who I think are perhaps undervalued in real baseball.......Really tried to construct it from the point of view of a GM. As much as that's possible. I listed my position players in what I would consider close to my ideal batting order. Thinking about switching Utley and Wright to mix up the lefty/righty thing a bit more.

This seems kind of time consuming, but I'll tell you this... Kenny "Sugar Loaf" Lofton would be on my squad. He's just a catalyst for good baseball. :*)

Yeah, ya know I thought so too. But when I got into it, it only took me about ten minutes or so. Not sure if that's a selling point or a sign that I rushed too quickly, but what the heck......

you seemed to have just made an all star team. in 2 years your team will cost 300 million. mix in some more good young players that arent superstars already like kubel, overbay, jenks, upton, and brian mccann to replace cabrera, pujols, lidge, reyes, and v-mart, and al reyes and francisco liriano to replace peavy and sheets. making the new and more appropriate team:

Starting Lineup
C - McCann
1B - Overbay
2B - Cantu
3B - Wright
SS - Upton
OF - Sizemore
OF - Kubel
OF - Bay
DH -

Rotation
SP - Reyes
SP - Liriano
SP - Harden
SP - King Felix
SP - Beckett

Bench
OF - Delmon Young
OF - Francoeur
3B - ARam
MI - Barmes
1B - Howard
C - Mauer

Bullpen
Closer - Jenks
Setup - Juan Padilla
Setup - Madson
LH Specialist - Mike Gonzalez
RH Specialist - Turnbow
Long man - Duke
Goldy is King.
