MiniDV Camcorder to Computer

Postby LooseCannon » Sun Feb 12, 2006 9:43 pm

So, After having a camcorder for awhile, I still have yet to be able to get hte videos on the computer. I'll tell you what I'm doing and could you tell me what I'm doing wrong.

First, I plug my camcorder into the charger, whlie the camera is off. Next, I plug in the camcorder to firewire to the computer, with the camera still off. And then with the computer on I turn my camera on. The omputer doesn't recognize my camera, but a web site I went to said it should. Any help? Also, the only video prog I have is Adobe Premiere Pro, if I need anything else just tell me..thnx ;-D

Did you install the drivers for the camera?

Does the OS tell you it does not recognize the camera, or does it do nothing?

Have you used the firewire connection before? Is the FireWire connection on the motherboard or PCI? On some motherboards, certain cards won't work in certain PCI slots.

If it is an on-board FireWire connection, there is a chance that the wire from the board to the port is loose or not connected.
Be excellent to each other.

Adobe Premiere is all you need. If you are using WinXP you should also have MovieMaker installed which you can try.

You checked the hardware manager to make sure it wasn't detected? If it isn't then try rebooting the computer after you turn the camera on. Some setups are fickle. Also if you are using WinXP make sure that you completely update through Windows Update. There was a driver conflict in SP2 that was causing problems with camcorders, etc.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Depending on the camera and the computer, USB often sucks for capturing video.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try what you said Amazinz.

Canon's web site says I don't need any drivers, I've also tried Movie Maker, and I found web sites saying that USB sucls for transferring video.

Go here:

http://www.camcorderinfo.com/

and look in the forums for your camera. See if others had a problem similar to yours, or post your problem and you should get replies.

I also recommend Windv for capture

It is a freeware program with a small RAM footprint that gives some decent options. Using this won't matter which program you use for editing.

I personally use Sony Vegas Movie Studio v. 6 for my video editing. Some of the guys on the site are high on Sony Vegas (the full version), but I didn't want to spend 600 bucks on professional software.

The other program that had some hype was Pinnacle Movie Studio. I didn't like the demo, so I went with Sony.

No experience with Adobe Premiere.
