How long until a movie about fantasy is made?

Postby nsulham » Sun Feb 12, 2006 6:27 pm

I was just thinking about this. With Hollywood always dying to come up with a new idea how long do you think it is until a movie about fantasy sports is made?

I was thinking it would pretty much have to be a comedy and probably a romantic one at that, otherwise it wouldn't do jack at the box office.

I'm nothing close to a screenwriter but it'd probably be something similar to Fever Pitch, where guy has huge obsession with fantasy, meets girl who thinks he's crazy but falls for him anyway and then conflict ensues (maybe draft day is same day as meeting the parents or something?)

I could see this being like a Farrelly movie or something like that. Who knows, I just thought it up while staring at my oven waiting for my drumsticks to cook so sue me...

When I first read the idea, Fever Pitch came to my mind too before I saw you mention it. I'm surprised there hasn't been anything really like that now that I think of it though. Or at least some kind of documentary on how popular it's become. Maybe that's just my wishful thinking combined with my love for FB. :-B

That would sure beat the crap they keep throwing at us.

But it should be based on Fantasy Baseball or Football... I mean Basketball and Hockey? :-P

But I think baseball would be the best... because fantasy football is 85% luck.

I bet it would be much more exciting if it was just about a guy playing fantasy sports. They'll show him browse the internet for odd stat category leaders, watch him during his live drafts or auctions, and show him check and edit his team daily. I think that would be sooooo exciting to watch..... :-D

Due to the popularity, I have to admit I'm surprised no one has attempted a movie based around fantasy sports. Probably has to do with trying to figure out a way to make it more interesting for mainstream people. I'm sure we'll have a movie made someday though. Even if they just surround the fantasy sports story with lots of T&A, someone will do it I'm sure.

There was a reference to fantasy sports in The Office a while back. I don't remember the exact quote or context, but that is a start. I am sure it is not too far off

That's because they can't. Fantasy baseball is boring unless you're playing. I think a movie where we watch other people play fantasy baseball would be nauseating at best. What, we watch some guy set his daily lineup and there's some kind of code in it that reveals the true identity of Jesus Christ's relationship with Mary Magdaline? Perhaps it could be called the Da Madison Code.

If they ever made it, I'm guessing it would star Matthew McConaughey. And maybe Dermot Mulroney.
