Actually...ANY team can win a world series in any given year if they buy it by sacrificing their future. The Tigers could go out and spend $200 million on FA signings and trade their minor league system to pieces and probably put together a pennant if not WS winner.

Take real talent though to take a team that won and drive it THIS deep into the ground and lose fan support.

My point was the the Red Sox *could* win a World Series if they chose to take the same strategy as the Marlins did when they won their title. However, in spite of having been saddled with an imbecile like Duquette the team has put a contender on the field just about every year.

That was the point of my post, not a payroll excuse. Of course, once again I point out that it's really easy to call yourself a Yankees fan and laugh at others.
