Rototimes has him listed a cleanup. That kinda surprised me. I figured they would keep A-rod 4th, and put Matsui 5th, Giambi 6th-7th, then Posada, etc. What is everyone else thinking? Has the evil empire made any announcement recently? Him batting cleanup as opposed to 6th-7th makes a big difference on my draft board. Thanks and leave a link!
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Well that should be Damon leading off to begin with~
I'm not really sure what they will do. I know they like to go Right, Left, Right left and Jeter, Arod and Sheff are all right handed, so I think they'll probably want Giambi in there somewhere if he's healthy, I would think Matsui would bat ahead of Giambi though. I don't think Shef's ego would let him move down below 5th in the order either.
Damon
Jeter
Arod
Matsui
Sheffield
Giambi
Posada
Williams
Cano
Something like that I'd guess though the bottom 3 could really go any order. I'm guessing they like Cano 9th to take pressure off of him and have his speed(well he's fast compared to williams and posada) on base for the top of the order.
Hmmm... I though Giambi really hit well in the 3rd spot so I don't know why they'd take him out of it. Unless the Yanks make some serious changes I think they'll have something like this opening day.
i dont think they want to put a ton of pressure on giambi. He hit well last year when he wasnt asked to carry the load, and i think it should stay that way until/unless he proves to be capable of puting up his 2nd half numbers over a full season again. Plus, the signing of damon allows the yanks to move some guys down in the order.
IMO, the lineup should go like this
Damon- CF
Jeter- SS
Rodriguez- 3B
Sheffield- RF
Matsui- LF
Giambi- 1B
Posada- C
Williams- DH
Cano- 2B
damon obviously should hit leadoff, jeter hits in his natural 2 spot. A-rod goes to 3 with 2 huge table setters in front of him. Sheffield hits cleanup, which strokes his ego. Plus, he can obviously handle it. Gaimbi hits 6th, which has very little pressure for a guy like him. Unless he starts puting up 1999-2002 type numbers, i see no reason to move him up.
edit: If phillips starts over bernie, i think he'd just slide into the 8th spot. Keep cano at 9 to turn the lineup over.
I definately think Giambi will be hitting cleanup. He was great hitting 3rd last year, in-between A-Rod and Sheff. With that protection, and his OBP ability, he can have a big season being sandwiched between all those superstars. I'd be surprised if the lineup is anything other than...
