This lineup is VERY possible. There is a certin team in the AL East, that in say, four years, if everybody reaches their potential could end up going to the World Series with some pitching. This is a young team, and here are the vets I would compare them to:
1. Kenny Lofton
2. Barry Larkin
3. Ricky Henderson(minus 20-30SB)
4. Albert Belle
5. Jim Edmonds(minus the defense)
6. Jeff Kent
7. Luis Gonzalez
8. Randy Winn
9. Paul Lo Duca
Here's the actual lineup:
Gathright, Upton, Crawford, Young, Gomes, Cantu, Huff, Baldelli, Hall
That's if every one of those guys reach their full potential, which is highly unlikely...not to mention I think most of those comparisons are huge stretches.
Yes, they have some good young players but they won't be in contention for the AL East until either the Sox and Yankees run out of money (guess when that's gonna happen).
Outside of the fact that at least 1, probably 2 of those outfielders will be gone, Huff will be gone, they play in the same division as the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays, you would need every player to hit some pretty amazing potential (Young=Belle, Gomes=Edmonds, Cantu=Kent??) and that they don't have 1 solid arm on the entire roster outside of Kazmir...
...yeah, that have a good shot at going to the World Series.
If Crawford is Henderson, then you need to minus a lot more than just steals. Henderson could probably still get on base more often in real life these days.
My apologies. I have a nephew named Anfernee, and I know how mad he gets when I call him Anthony. Almost as mad as I get when I think about the fact that my sister named him Anfernee.
