i don't know but I think I saw one of those dudes on the subway in NYC

Could you imagine being the doctor and filling out the death certificate?

Cause of death: Spear thrown through the heart.

What an interesting read. ;-D
Yes doctor, I am sick.
Sick of those who are spineless.
Sick of those who feel self-entitled.
Sick of those who are hypocrites.
Yes doctor, an army is forming.
Yes doctor, there will be a war.
Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Wow, what an interesting story!!

I'm not quite sure I can totally agree w/ the 'exclusion zone' idea though. Sure, it's quaint but, w/o knowing what's up, it seems like the people would be at risk for disease, reduced life expectency and other hazards of neolithic culture.

I guess it didn't work 'helping' the other peoples that have been subjected to modernization but the notion of keeping them isolated unless a salvagable shipwreck hits the island or drunk fishermen are washed ashore seems a bit ridiculous, kind of like keeping them in a zoo or something of that nature. If anybody found oil or a diamond pipe or some other commodity there, they'd be toast IMHO...

I think exposing them to other people would put them at risk of disease. They have made it this long without outside contact, there is no reason to think they can't continue. But I agree. If it is discovered that there is oil, diamonds, or any other natural resource where they are living I'm sure they'll be relocated or assimiliated quickly.

but...the life expectancy 'cat' in Neolithic times was like 35 years old so hardly any of those folks would have much of a chance to see their grandchildren, relax, etc. Not to mention that if any sort of 'crimes' were perpetuated against members of the tribe (eg. that stuff that was going on on Pitcairn island until recently...) their chances of obtaining any sort of justice would be slim.

Kind of intriguing questions and I guess that leaving them alone's about the best that we can do but, at the same time, some kid on the island gets a curable disease (diabetes for example...) and dies and it sucks to be him, his parents, etc. simply because it was decided to be left alone. Not to mention the hazards to drunken fishermen!

Or if they murder anymore people. First its drunk fishermen. Yeah thats fine. How about when they murder some shipwreck survivors who get washed up? How many people will they be allowed to kill, simply because they are an "isolated people"?
