Anybody here bet on baseball?

Postby wrigleyivy » Thu Feb 09, 2006 12:45 am

I was thinking of entering into baseball betting. After all these years in fantasy and studying the game i thought why not. Anybody here do it and what are your thoughts on it?
People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. Rogers Hornsby

It's pretty hard. MLB is a difficult game to cap. Anything can happen on a given day and the lines are not easy to try and figure out.

Sadly the best luck I have ever had in sports betting is on WNBA. I have never watched a game. I followed some dudes betting patterns and won decent money. Just looking at records and common opponents I was suprised at how the lines were formed in the WNBA.

I know people who bet ST games all against certain teams on the theory that certain teams do not care and will play scrubs alot and lose the majority of their games. Never had the nerve to do it though but it does make a certain amount of sense.

Very difficult to make money on direct head to head betting due to the very nature of the game.

The most sensible approach is to bet on the overs / unders total runs scored option IMO but as I've been "Barred from Wagering" I don't even go there anymore.

I do proline occasionally (a sports lottery in Ontario). There's a new game they offered a couple years back which is fun because it is like fantasy. Basically, out of a list of 10 players or so, you pick who will finish 1-2-3 in offensive production for a given weekend (single=1 pt., double=2, trip=3, HR=4). You win if you guessed the top three, and you win even more if the order was also correct! I'm not sure if there is an equivalent in the States, but if you are ever in Toronto then give it a shot!

the key is to be consistant over the course of a season and bet the props more then the games itself. Anything can happen over a 9 inning game of ball.
