"Ace" Pitchers

so you didn't just draft one pitcher and the rest hitters in those first 6 or 7 rounds...(having Schilling in the third and Oswalt in the, what? second? fourth?)

surprised you were able to win the league with Beltran and Schilling in your top picks...it was a weird year though I thought...a lot of underperformers so other teams probably suffered as well...one guy in our league took bonds and schmidt 1 and 2...he came in eleventh just above the guy who quit playing halfway through the year...

I like to have one because depending on your league you may not get the chance to pick one of those gems up. In my keeper league I know I can sleep on anybody because all the managers are involved and are up to date about transactions and stats of players throughout the league.

Now that I've got some opinions, I'll give my reasoning for thinking an Ace is more important in H2H than Roto. In Roto, your staff gets judged in its entirety. You could very easily stockpile 7 or 8 good (but not great) pitchers, start them based on matchups, and come out very good stat-wise. However, if you're in a good H2H league (that takes churning out of the strategy), you win or lose based on your consistency. You can't afford to sit 3/4 of your SPs in a given week, whereas you could do that in Roto.

Just my thoughts on it.

Disclaimer: Even in a Roto league, I still like to get an Ace in the first three or four rounds.

In H2H, I personally don't like having my team pitching loaded or favored. I prefer a 65/35, 60/40 ratio favoring hitting.

My reason is this...

In H2H if one of your stud SPs has a crappy game then it could really put you in a hole if you are relying on winning pitching by loading your pitching. If a hitter has a bad game it becomes minimal over the entire week.

If they have a bad week it could hurt, but I think it's more likely for one of your SPs to have a bad game than one of your cornerstone hitters to have an entirely bad week.
