He's still in setup, but he's behind Otsuka, who will pitch the 8th inning. But, I don't see him doing well. Much of his performance out of the pen was driving by two "lucky" factors, a low batting average on balls in play (.251) and a low HRs per flyball. Both of those will tend to return to their former levels and I see his ERA closer to 5 than 4 and his WHIP again closer to 1.4 then 1.2

My comment on the Blue Jays situation is that Schowenweiss is still the only lefty out of the Jays pen (except for the closer and Downs who will probably be kept as either a starter in the bigs or AAA or in long relief) and Frasor is still feeling pain from his injured finger. Combine this with the offseason changes and I see him increasing his total of 21 from last year and not getting fewer holds. Other than that, good list. ;-D

Thanks for the updates, guys. My league draft is March 20, so look for an update next weekend. Any new information that guys can share on their home teams is most welcome.

wow, thank you so much.

a quick question for the in-house guru. you posted this list of SP eligable possible setup men in another thread. if you could just pick one (or maybe two) that i should start the season with, id much appreciate it. i already have rincon and he only have three RP slots and no P slots so i want to have 2 closers, rincon and someone i can slot into a SP slot (of which we have 5).

heres the list again:

Here are a few with SP eligibility that might be SU guys this year:

M. Belisle (Cin - SP,RP)
H. Carrasco (LAA - SP,RP)
M. Wood (KC - SP,RP)
J. Benoit (Tex - SP,RP)
J. Gobble (KC - SP,RP)
J. Wasdin (Tex - SP,RP)
P. Walker (Tor - SP,RP)
J. Papelbon (Bos - SP,RP)
J. Sosa (Atl - SP,RP)
E. DuBose (Bal - SP,RP)
R. Helling (Mil - SP,RP)
K. Davies (Atl - SP,RP)
S. McClung (TB - SP,RP)
R. Colón (Det - SP,RP)
J. Fassero (SF - SP,RP)
D. Brazelton(SD - SP,RP)

THANK YOU! im really worried about this HLDs this year.

It's a little tough because I have not checked all the rotation battled completely, so this is as much guys I think are good as guys will definitely set-up:

Papelbon
Colon
Carrasco
Fassero

One of the keys to holds is to be active on the waiver wire. Roles change and new guys step up. Focus on picking good pitchers who happen to get holds. If you focus on holds and ignore their WHIP and K rates, you'll end up hurting yourself so much in other cats, that the extra holds won't matter.

Good question. Who do you target in Hou? Who's the 8th inning guy for Lidge?

You know a position is weak when you see the name "R. Helling" on it :-P

Yes, Wheeler was. Last year was the first time he ever showed himself capable of handling that role, so my list assumes some regression in his performance that could cost him that role.

With Dotel and Villone around, I think the Yankees have learned their lessons about relying so heavily on a single set-up guy who subsequently sees his arm fall off in August in September. I think they'll distribute those holds around a bit more than in the past two years.
