This year is going to be a interesting year for SP. A lot of young pitchers with 2yrs or less experience with potential high upside. At least 17 in the top 100. Most these names appear in most top 100 SP I've seen.
F. Hernandez - SEA
Cabrera - BAL
Bedard-BAL
Kazmir-TB
Duke - PIT
Lowry - SF
Cain - SF
Blanton - OAK
Reyes - STL
Liriano - MIN
Wang - NY
Chacin - TOR
Santana - LAA
Baker - MIN
Bush - MIL
Vargas - FLA
Haren -OAK (if you don't count his years as middle reliever)
I'll second the Cain and Lowry nominations and will add some that will be undervalued, but aren't true 'sleepers'.
Lackey- high K rate and a very good offense behind him. 27
Doug Davis- another high K guy on an improving team with a good bullpen. Good health history too. 30
Bedard- Mazzone effect could be huge here. Some health issues though. 27
Webb- extreme groundball pitcher with good K rate. 27
These are 4 guys I'll be looking to snag. Davis is the old man and he's just 30. The other three could be on the verge of putting it all together. Davis will be the true steal of the group though. He is constantly overlooked.
Personally, I am not as high on the likes of Myers and Bonderman. King Felix is not much of a sleeper.
Cain and Liriano are good bets, if you can get them late (say around round 15+).
Here are four pitchers who may be forgotten about.
Daniel Cabrera - If you drink the Mazzone Kook-Aid, then he is a prime candidate. Also had a nice 2nd half.
Erik Bedard- good stuff. Good pick, no matter if you are or are not a Mazzone believer.
Shawn Chacon - Had really nice numbers when he arrived in the Bronx. He is worth a late round flier.
Ching Meing Wang - another late round flier. Had good numbers, when healthy.
Keep an eye for Angel Guzman, if he can finally stay healthy. This kid breezing through the minors at a Prior-like pace until he got hurt.
Oliver Perez
Sean Burnett
Javier Vasquez
Eric Bedard
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.
It seems like a lot of guys are mentioning players who I wouldn't consider a sleeper.
Escobar
Bedard
Lackey
Webb
Davis
These guys don't seem like sleepers to me. They are guys who may put up solid numbers or numbers slightly better than they are used to, but to me thats not a sleeper.
A sleeper to me is someone like Willis a couple of years ago. King Felix, Lackey last year...A player that is really on nobody's radar or players like Benson who have never done anything and gotten to a point where owners just don't even consider them anymore.
You have no frame of reference, Donny. You're like a child who walks into the middle of a movie...
