Multi - Catagory Players

Postby Third Day » Sat Feb 04, 2006 9:57 am

Last season was my first in fantasy baseball. To say it was different from football would be an understatement. The most important lesson I learned as a newbie was taught to me by the commish of one of my leagues: the value of multi-catagory players. Its something you must understand as a new player. I picked so many name players my first year that were one demensional, and man did that come back to bite me, especially in roto leagues. In drafts and in trades, look for those players that are strong in 2, 3, or even 4 catagories.

I saw someone suggest something on another thread that really helps you identify this. If you are like me, I have a spreadsheet with players and projections for my draft. Use conditional formatting to color the cells for those players who are above or below average in a category. For example, for batting average, I turn guys with a .290 average or more green and guys with .265 average or below red. Those in between get no color. Once you do this, multi-category contributors and those that will hurt you in several areas jump right out.
