We've finally finished our mock and I'm pretty happy with it. I picked up a lot of valuable information from it that I know I'll try and use. I thank all the other guys for making it a smooth event. Hopefully, this helped everyone who checked in.
I majored on hitting in the early rounds, and so I am very happy with my offensive starting line-up. Also pleased to get Barmes (15), Biggio (17) & Casey (21) as bench back-ups. Took a risk drafting Piazza, hoping he would DH in the AL...that obviously didn't work out!
Pitching could easily have suffered as a result, but I'm reasonably happy with what I ended up with. Considering I didn't take a starter until Round 8, to have Schilling, Haren & Bonderman as a 1-2-3 is not bad at all, even allowing for the Schilling pick being a risk. Only 1 closer in Billy Wagner, but I decided fairly early on that I would grab one stud and then play to work the WW during the season. Another risky strategy, but closer is the most volatile position...!
Interesting doing a 14-team Mock (as opposed to the standard 12), and has certainly helped in seeing where players are being valued this year
I'm pretty happy with my team - I have a lot of high risk/reward guys, so I think my team could really be good or fall apart at the seams. I'm very happy with getting Bay and Wright on the back end of the snake, it seemed as if both of their stocks just kept rising after we did this draft - I've seen both in the first round in some places. If Giambi doesn't fall apart - and even if he does, I have capable replacements with Jacobs and Monroe - and Molina plays this year, I fell very good about my offense. I feel like I am happy with who I have at each position, but my pitching is what scares me a bit. Zambrano needs to stay healthy, and Lowry needs to have the breakout people are predicting. Hopefully my later round pitchers - Bush, Odalis Perez - can come through, and Capuano can keep progressing. If Oliver Perez can turn it around, or Liriano gets a starting spot, I'll be in better shape, but as I said, those are risky guys...
