how will valverde do this season, will he bite the injury bug again or will he stay healthy and keep the closers job? What kind of numbers can we expect?

Actually the injury bug will bite him...

I think he would have a hard time biting a bug.

i think valverde will be dynamite this season. ;-D

i'm expecting a K per inning, decent WHIP and ERA. he did really well after taking over the closer's job and i think he won't lose it for a while...something around 1.10 WHIP and and ERA around 3, certainly below 4. and put me down for 25 saves.

predicting injuries is hard. he's no hideki matsui, but he's also no cliff floyd.

valverde is a big strong guy and id say hes a decent bet to stay healthy.....and dominant. he does have lyon lurking but he was superb last season after taking over and i see no reason for that to stop.

Agree - he has the skills needed to be closer, so if he stays healthy (which I presume he will), he should be a pretty good one.

If not, I agree that Lyon would likely be next, but also keep Medder in the back of your mind.

I like him this season, but I wouldn't count on him as another more than a number 3 closer. I say this because he's been really hurt and with saves you can't gamble too much because there only so many people that get a significant amount.
Who says I can't be a Yankees and Mets fan???

He is better than a #3 closer. He is definitely in top 50%. Look around at the other closers, how many have not had a significant injury? I think Valverde will have a great year.

Every year, I try and take stock of all the relievers who didn't finish in the top 15 in saves the year before, and make some guesses at who will be in that group at the end of this year. Valverde is certainly a guy that should be targeted after those consistent closers.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

I like this guy a lot. Probably will be this year's Chad Cordero.
