Petco Park is only a slightly worse hitters park than Shea...and that's before the right-center wall in Petco is brought in.

I don't think Petco will have a significant (if any) impact on Piazza's numbers this season...only normal regression due to his age, though I think the increase in playing time he'll recieve in San Diego, will help offset his regression in the counting statistics.

In its simplest form, it is a usefull measuring stick.

WOW. Lot of Piazza bashing going on.

His offensive production at the catching position is still almost Top 5, and will likely remain in the Top 7 in 2006. He still outhomered every Padre player in '05, and has the power to do so again in '06.

At this stage, Piazza can still put up good enough offensive stats to effectively compete against all but one or two catchers in '06. In my 12-team league (draft), Victor Martinez, with his 24 HRs and 85 RBIs might be a 5th or 6th round pick, and Piazza, with his 19 HRs and 70 RBIs may be had 10-12 rounds later. Now who's the bargain?

The only question is how much playing time he'll get.
