Created a sig using Gimp...

And its REAL rough, as you can see. I basically just threw something together. My main objective was getting it completed and posted to the site. Now that I have that accomplished, could I get some advice on how to make them as good as some of the ones I've seen on here?

Feel free to critique, like I said, its my first shot at it. I'd like to get them as good as the ones most of you have. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've never used the GIMP, but I think it looks good for your first try. You can only get better and I'm sure if you saw most of the artists work when they first started off, they wouldn't look like the greatest. Though in order to achieve something you have to practice. Once you make a couple more you will be getting better and much more experienced.

I'd recommend making the player bigger, I can't tell who it is. Is it Pujols?

Yeah...its him. Once I figure out how to touch up the edges around my player cutout I'll concentrate on effects and different fonts and so forth. Hopefully someone can fill me in...how can I make the player cutout look "seamless" when pasted to my backdrop? Is there any way to clean it up?

One more thing...using the Gimp is relatively easy and FREE, so its good to practice with. Once I get my feet wet, does anyone know of any better programs out there to use? If I have to spend $$ thats no big deal...I'd really like to start creating graphics.

Adobe Photoshop is a great program to use once you're more experienced.

How did you cut your player out?

use the laso to cut him out in one motion...hold the mouse button down and cut as close as possible...also select the feather edges option so that you don't get jagged edges

Here's how I'd cut out your players better:

First zoom in on the player quite a bit.

Then use the polygonal lasso tool to outline the player.


Then once your done outlining, add a 1 pixel feather to your selection.

Go under the "Select"menu and go to feather:


And keep practicing cutting players out.
