Capellan--I dont get it...

Postby Comrade Antelope » Wed Jan 25, 2006 1:10 am

Alot of guys are high on him, especially in my keeper leagues. I realize he was a top ATL prospect, but his resume doesnt look that impressive, Turnbow looks healthy and damn good, so in a holds league, he should be a few bucks? I dont get it. Help a fella out...

I don't know a great deal about the guy and haven't seen him pitch, but I'd imagine that people are high on him in a keeper league because he is only 25 and throws over 100mph. That means possibly a future closer, and alot of K's.

He's got some late-innings potential with some K's so if you count holds he could score for you. Remains to be seen, though, he could go either way. Worth a flyer little more, imo.

A lot depends on how well Kolb comes back and how they use him. The Brewers have high hopes in the future (next year?) for Capellan (sp?) but I see them giving him another year in the minors: last year was his first as a closer.

I believe they only tried to convert him to closer because they had no clue what Turnbow would turn out to be. Now that they seem to have a stud closer I think they will either try him back at starter or, more likely, convert him to be a couple inning stud to get from that suprisingly solid Starting rotation to Turnbow. Unless something happens to Turnbow, I don't see him being of much value in the very near future.............unless he can strike out 2 guys per inning?!?
