Hermida the next Abreu?

Rotoheaven.com's Rob Leibowitz compares Jeremy Hermida to Bobby Abreu in the long run.

Whether or not that ends up being the case, I see Hermida as an outfielder who is capable of exploding onto the scene like Grady Sizemore did in 2005. At worst, Hermida is worth a look as your #3 fantasy outfielder in 2006. And even as a Giants fan, I think Hermida will beat Matt Cain in the battle for NL Rookie of the year.

Interesting ... a comparison that is actually pretty good. Usually when making comparisons you have to reach one way or another to find someone close to that prospect, but this one makes good sense. Both are guys that had their power come along slowly in the minors, each were about the same level at their ages (Abreu being a year younger) and are all-around talents that are well rounded in every aspect. Hermida might even have a better eye down the road, which is saying something. Now Hermida just needs to get placed in a hitters park like Abreu.

I had him as my minor leaguer in straight NL and when he was brought up last year in the last part of August I had to activate him. So now I have him in his second year instead of first...if they had only waited two days to bring him up I'd have him for three more years.

Well, this doesn't make my decision to keep or drop him any easier..

I think he will be good, but I don't know about 'exploding onto the scene like Sizemore' last season.

Grady had a much better cast of players around him, and both Abreu and Sizemore play in a hitters park.
