Troy Percival, the Starter?

Postby phillibuster » Sun Jan 22, 2006 9:14 pm

Rototimes has Detroit persuing the possibility of using Troy as a starter to give him more rest between starts....anyone project how he would crossover?

not well at all. He's 36 years old, coming off a major injury and has never started a game in his career.

I swear, i think they just throw darts a board sometimes and publish whatever headline they hit. This is ridiculus.

Percival has suggested this, not Detroit. I can't see it happening.

Laughable! I mean he can't stay healthy pitching 1 inning let alone 6-7 innings. Why not just trade him to Atlanta or Cincinnati and agree to payoff most of his remaing contract. Betemit for Percival or even Milton for Percival as an even swap? A big ballpark would do wonders for Homerun Milton.

As a Tiger fan, my response is "hahahahaha". I don't think anyone's even sure if he'll be healthy enough to even contribute in the bullpen, let alone try to be a crappy starter. He cannot be serious, can he?

The Tigers may not have anything close to a dominant staff lined up for 2006, but they are far from desperate enough to give Percival a spot.

Purely a pipe-dream by Percival. I can't blame the guy for wanting to compete for a rotation spot when his only other alternative is as a setup man however. I think it's laughable, but as his manager I would be thrilled to see him come to camp with something to compete for other than staying healthy throughout camp.

Did he cut off his arm and replace it with a mechanical one? 8-o

I really don't think he'd stay healthy as a starter. I've got him as a pretty good injury risk already, and that's just coming out of the pen. :-o

It's time he retired. He's had so many problems staying healthy. To try to start would make him a joke.
