Now that the Mets traded Benson, it is looking like Heilman might get a shot at the starting rotation. His numbers in relief last year were fairly impressive. I think he might be deep sleeper and could perform fairly well this year. What do y'all think of him and how high do you think his ceiling is?

Coming from a met fan I will be honest and say that Hielman will be a terrible starting pitcher. The mets have tried him before and he failed badly...just look at the stats. It has been said that heilman is very hittable the second time through the order. this is unfortunatly true. Heilmans value is in the bullpen, I think the mets realize this and will go in a different direction such as Bannister, Soler, or more likely a trade or FA signing.....but thats only my opinion.

Isn't possible that his lousy numbers as a starter were just a result of his not having put it together in past years. Maybe he figured it out in the bullpen and will be a good starter this year. I would take a shot on him as a sleeper.

I think you're on to something. Before he went to the bullpen last year, he had several really good starts. If I remember correctly, he attributed it to rediscovering his changeup, which was his "out" pitch for lefthanders when he had a 0.68 ERA after the all-star break. His good numbers continued in the Dominican winter league. I think he will be at least as good as Benson.

Hrmm. A few have had whispers of Heilman as sleeper, but in the
role of a set-up man or closer, not a starter.

Im also a met fan and dont see Hielman as anything more than a #5 or spot starter forteam. Dont be fooled by mini hot streak he had as a starter.
He has no outstanding "out" pitch. Depends on strictly location which as he has proved in the past isnt always there.

I see him traded to another team where hell be in long relief.
The Mets will win the World Series this year.
