That would certainly solves Boston's problem in CF, but that's a whole lot to give up for him. With Marte gone, is Mike Lowell going to be the full-time 3B this year and the next, now?

Overall, it looks to be a positive trade for both teams, though.

I would think Lowell has the first crack at the long term 3B job depending on his performance this year. Then the Sox have the option to move Youk back to 3B and go get a 1B. Again, much depends on what Youk and Lowell do with the bat this year. Their defense should not be the problem.

Crisp's numbers should continue in a slight upward trend. He is leaving a good offensive lineup for a potentially great one and he should be given the green light to take 2B without a good #2 hitter on the horizon.

that's a fantasy stud right there....

Let's hope Boston is able to wiggle Ryan Garko as well as a decent bullpen arm away as well Cleve has tons of depth at 1B and either Aubrey or Garko needs to come back. Both of those guys could be the answer at 1B in 2007 and makes the loss of Marte that much easier to swallow.

actually, there is still questions to be answered about Lowell. He is far from a sure thing after last years big dropoff in performance. If he got off to a slow start, marte off to a fast one, and the losses piling up, I would not be surprised to see Marte replace Lowell and Lowell platooning at 1B.

Marte is a nice insurance policy with upside as well as a very valuable trading chip. Has Boston been able to acquire J Reed with Arroyo or Clement, they would not have had to trade him. And no, Lugo is not worth Marte....

the sox have been trying to get crisp or reed for quite a while, yes. it appears that they have finally gotten (is that even a word?) one of thier men.

apparently the sox (and i think the braves too) see something about marte that troubles them. he did not perform well in his trial last season, and maybe they know something we don't. i still think that boston traded for marte in order to use him to get someone else.
