May 14, 1941 is significant because that is when the most unbreakable record in MLB had it's start. I am talking about Joe Dimaggio's 56 game hitting streak (of course).
What happened on August 9, 1949 and why is it (somewhat) related?

Joe's brother, Dom, had a hitting streak in the 30-game range broken by his brother's (Joe's) shoe-string catch.<br><br><span class=gensmall>Accepted as answer by metsfan1969 on Sat Feb 01, 2003 11:48 pm EST.</span>
From the official rulebook of baseball: "Baseball is a game played between two teams of nine players each." Therefore, baseball is a game played only in the National League.

Ok, You got it. On 8/9/1949 The yankees' Joe DiMaggio robbed his brother Dom of a hit in the eighth inning of a game against the Red Sox, stopping Doms hitting streak at 34 games.
Nice Job!
