Hey guys, starting a keeper league up this year with my buddies but don't know where to start. Could anyone offer the rules that they play by? Post them here in the form of a link or reply, or PM me if you don't want them public? It would be greatly appreciated!
I'd like to get as many as possible, that way I could take elements from each. Are there any online resources that provide this sort of stuff?
League Size:
10-team, H2H, 27-man rosters, standard 5x5
Start C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OFx4, Util.x2, MI, CI
SPx5, RPx2, Px3
Basic Overview:
Keep 7 - 13 players (players may be kept indefinitely)
Keeper designations are due February 13, by 11:59 PM
The way it works:
The first 13 Rounds of the draft are run standard non-snake style, with the worst team from the previous season picking first each round. In these rounds, teams select their keeper players until they are exhausted. Once a player has burned their first X Draft Picks on their X keepers, they may pick from the player pool. Trading of picks is allowed but ONLY ones occuring in Rounds 14 and beyond. Starting in Round 14, the draft switches to normal snake-style, with the 1st place team from the previous season getting the 1st selection (Pick 14.1) until it's over. Trading may occur during the draft at any time, including players already selected as well as current and upcoming draft picks.
Money Distribution:
$50/team x 10 teams = $500 pot
Regular Season: The 1st place team at the end of the fantasy regular season will be awarded $100. 2nd place will receive $50.
Post Season: The team that finishes in 1st place after the playoffs are all said and done will get $200. 2nd place will receive $50.
Every 4 weeks, one of the 10 categories will be selected at random, and be up for a cash prize. For example, if Homeruns is selected for Weeks 1-4, whichever team amasses the most total HRs in the combined 4 weeks will receive $20. This will go on for 20 weeks, or 5 4-week periods. wrveres was the one who supplied this idea, pegging it the DASH 4 CASH.
That's the basic idea, off the top of my head, without looking at our documentation. if you have any other questions, just ask.
Here are the rules for a keeper I started, its relatively simple...
I. Roster Spots
A. Offensive Roster Spots: C,1B,2B,3B,SS,OF,OF,OF,Util,Util
B. Pitching Roster Spots: SP,SP,RP,RP,P,P,P
C. Bench and DL: 6 Bench spots, 2 DL spots
II. Scoring
A. Roto scoring
B. Hitting Cats: R,HR,RBI,AVG,SB,TB
C. Pitching Cats: W,K,SV,ERA,WHIP,K/BB
III. Keepers
A. 6 players will be kept year to year from every team (does not include
minor league
system)
B. Players can be kept an unlimited amount of time
IV. Minor League System
A. Minor League System will consist of 5 players. Players must NOT in be in
Yahoo
Database at draft time to be eligible for minor league draft.
B. Minor League Draft will take place directly following regular draft via
league message
board. Draft will be in reverse snake order of real draft.
C. You have permanent rights to your minor leaguer until you have dropped them
from
your real team. You do NOT have to pick up minor leaguers right when they are
called up.
It is your choice when to pick them up, but once you pick them up and then drop
them,
the rights to the player are no longer yours.
D. Minor Leaguers are eligible to be kept in the minor league system until
they have lost
major league rookie status, at which point they must either be designated as a
keeper for
the following year, or returned to the player pool for the draft.
E. Once you lose a minor leaguer from your system, either via call-up or
trade, you will
replenish your system the following draft year.
F. Minor leaguers can be traded, but the team recieving the minor leaguer must
"drop"
one of their existing guys to make room.
V. Draft
A. League draft will be held next year via Yahoo live draft on an agreed upon
date. After
the first year, the first 6 rounds will be occupied by keepers, and the rest of
the draft will
start in the 11th round.
B. Draft picks cannot be traded.
VI. VETO
A. Commish (me) will have veto powers.
B. I veto only on trades which are collusion.
C. If you have a large problem with a trade, i.e. you believe it is very
one-sided, e-mail
me. If 1/3 of the league members (4 people) email me about it, reasoning for the
trade
must be provided from both sides, at which point I will determine whether or not
it was a
viable reason to make the trade. (non-viable reasons include, hes my favorite
player, I like
his team, he wears my favorite number, etc.)
7 keepers + 1 rookie with 13 additional players drafted
The required keepers are made-up of:
4 lifers, and 3 one-year players. Lifers can be kept as long as you wish to keep them, but can not be demoted to a one yr only spot.
One year only players can be kept one year. After that they must be promoted to lifer, traded or droped into the draft pool.
We're also given the option of keeping a rookie, or getting an additional draft pick at the end of the draft.
I'd only suggest this format with an active league. Ours is a 20 team league, and we have a lot of trade activity in the off season due to the keeper restrictions we have.
Any fool can piss on the floor....may you be the hero that craps on the ceiling!
I'm glad to see there is some construtive feedback. I posed a similar question about a month ago and got nothing.
Something that my newly forming keeper league is proposing is that all monies for our 3 year keeper be put upfront to avoid any team losing interest after a year or two.
Along those same lines we are also considering to have a small percentage of each year's prize money go to the most improved team btwn the 1st and 2nd half.
