PHOENIX - Austin Kearns was out of the lineup Sunday. The obvious reason is he could use a day out to help him get out of a 2-for-16 skid.
But the less obvious reason is Kearns has been playing with a sore right arm for a month.
Kearns suffered a badly bruised right rotator cuff when Atlanta pitcher Ray King fell on him after tagging Kearns out at the plate.
"It's been bugging me ever since," Kearns said. "Some days are better than others."

this explains a lot...might be a good time to try to pick him up from an underinformed kearns owner.

I remember that play, and was wondering if the shoulder hit was contributing to Kearns' slump. With the Reds safely in the lead, it was really a foolish attempt by Kearns to try to score on a passed ball that didn't get 15-20 feet from the catcher, and his head-first slide slammed his shoulder into former football player Ray King's right knee.
Since that May 21 collision, Kearns is 24/96 (.250) with only 3 2B and 2 HR (.344 slugging percentage.)
