saves don't count as holds. a hold is when a pitcher comes in in a save situation but is not the pitcher who gets the final out. a save situation is where the tying run is on deck. this can be a 5 run lead and a guy comes in in the 8th inning with one out and none on. there will be 5 more batters coming to the plate so the potential tying run would be considered "on deck"
You cannot have a save and a hold by the same player in one game .. But I do believe you can have a hold and win by one player in a game. But I know they can't have Hold/Save.

Yes, a pitcher can get a hold and a win in the same game. I remember seeing it in a box score at Mlb.com. Can't get a hold and a save.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

A Hold is a Save. You just can't have a hold to end a game, cus then its called a ...Save.
Actually they should get rid of the Save, and rate all relievers by holds. Including closers, they would just have alot more holds.

Agreed! Becuase of Yahoo rankings, many excellent RP's with tons of holds are rated so badly in my league, but since we count holds, they really are extremely valuable.
